Singtel in singapore released Iphone for 0$ almost the same time. But its coupled with a 2 year subscription, with $145/month. Though it comes with a 25hr outgoing per month, who in india will be ready to pay 5000 a month? So its same… Getting iphone for 36000 INR in India by loan or for 0$ from singtel and later 5000 INR /month for 2 years..

Airtel and Vodafone are launching it here without any contract-based plans. That means, you dont have to stick with the same plan for 2~3 years. Thats how the biggies sell it for a reduced price in US. They can makeup the loss of discount with a 2 or 3 year contract.
