iPhone price in India – Big disappointment!

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

There’s no doubt that iPhone will remain a premium commodity and not a crowd puller in India. You’ve seen why.

Now, there’s even more to worry.

An iPhone in India will cost you INR – 36,000 for a 16GB model.
In the US, a 16GB Apple iPhone 3G is available at $299 (around INR 12,259). So an Apple iPhone 3G in India will cost you three times as that of it’s original price. WOW!

For non-believers, Check out this news from Reuters.

iPhone India Price

I suspect this is a much thought after “premium pricing” strategy from Apple (or whoever is behind it in India), because they already know that it’s not going to be popular even if the price is kept lower.

So who’s going to take it for 36,000 Rs with no 3G, and all the other list of drawbacks?

Looks like my list of addictions is growing. :D

“Cheeselings” is a very good snack from Parle, salty namkeens dipped in Cheese. Yummy.

Try it with Pepsi, good combination ;)

What is KILB (K.I.L.B) ? The Irfan Khan Ad

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

It’s good time for series ads alright? I remember, the first one was “Digen Varma” (for Mango fruity ad), which was big hit during my school days. I personally like all the series ads as they have a “kick” to them.

They take advantage of our curiosity and the natural mouth to mouth publicity reaches a peak before the product is launched. Great strategy and works like a charm.

K.I.L.B-What is KILB?

Now recently, Irfaan Khan is seen featuring a “unknown brand” with the tag line – “Kya apko KILB hai?” Another good series ad, where Irfaan Khaan is seen as a doctor and asking if you have KILB?

I like this guy, he’s got a special way of dialogue delivery and body language – very convincing, which was evident from the “Hutch Kabootar” ads.

Now, my guesses are that this is an AIDS awareness program. Where the idea to propagate is “AIDS does not spread by touching.”

Not sure if there are more episodes in this series coming up, but I think it’s gaining on.

Let’s wait and watch.

Update – ——

Very reliable sources hinted that this might be a Vodafone ad launching their new product.

If yes, what a pity..they haven’t used the online media at all.

But still…what the hell is K.I.L.B ?

Update 2 ————

I think it is “Kisi ki Iphone Lene ki Bukhar”.
Kya aapko KILB hai? Means, do you have the disease of staring/taking/using others iPhone.

KILB choone se nahi phailthi…KILB does not spread on touch. But USE or even SIGHT.

Update 3

Okay, guys! Suspense over. No Vodafone, no AIDS – It’s from Aegon Religare – “Kum Insurance Lene Ki Bimari”

:D

Bangalore bomb blasts – A scary message

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Scary it is! Despite the lingering question on who could be behind it, I’m worried about the message it gives. Bangalore, the IT hub of India that contributes to more than 50% of it’s GDP, is being targeted by someone who does not like it. And the most scariest fact is that it’s a soft target – ironic!

It’s disappointing when you realize that the message was written on the wall long before, soon after the Hyderabad attacks, but the officials are of the opinion that they’ll do something about it once something happens – or so does it seem.

Anyhow, the recent serial blasts of Bangalore have triggered a clear signal to the public – that it’s not a safe place anymore. But hey, when was it one?

I’m addicted to Pepsi

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

I have to admit it. Not sure if it’s the taste or the brand. Pepsi is cool to me.

You know we guys tend to develop a sort of likeness to one particular brand even before trying it or knowing what it is. We also tend to dislike some brands similarly.
I had a problem with Coke. I didn’t like the ads. It was always red and tinges of red. It always had a “loudness” to it. And I didn’t like the ads at all. They weren’t cool compared to pepsis. I wouldn’t prefer something like that to take home from the store shelf.
Pepsi better than Coke
You know the coca-colas font is more suited for a washing-soap brand according to my opinion. It was flowery, long tailed, curvy and more feminine kind of. But it also threw a “wanna be” macho image through the ads. I felt like, this guys is thinking in his mind “Damn! Somebody 30 years ago fixed a stupid font to me, and I can’t get rid of it now.”
It’s like a chinese trying to be an Indian. It’s totally contradictory and everything just juts out. All the while, the ads and fillers always “tried” to be cool. Nah, Coke not for me.

Pepsi, on the other hand, although belittled too often for it’s “sweet” image, was cool and hep to me. I love the blues-white-red combination. It is a perfect mix and balance of everything. It was always youth, new, fresh, improving..ah, just like how I want it to be. Probably it’s because Pepsi has taken more avatars than Coke (Remember Vanilla Coke where Vivek Oberoi played Elvis?) that were successful. As I said earlier, Coke was always “trying” but never succeeded.

Look at the brand ambassadors with Pepsi and Coke.

Pepsi – Shahrukh, John, Amithabh Bachhan, Sachin Coke – Aamir, Hrithik, Aishwarya ?

Well, there may be others but I can’t think of any now. Poor recall value !

And, do you know what I liked most about Pepsi? When Coke went through trouble times, alleged of exploiting natural resources, Pepsi did not use it for their advantage.

My thoughts may be skewed but, Pepsi – I love you.
