Had my first ever Micturition Syncope (aka passing out while taking a leak)

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Yesterday night, as usual, got out of sleep to take a leak and as soon as I got up, was feeling “funny”, you know the “world is round after all , so its rolling” kind of feeling, but didn’t take it seriously as it normally happens when you jump out of deep sleep, gets right soon.
But as soon as I “did the thing” at the bathroom, again felt “terribly funny” and that’s the only thing I remember. After some time, I found myself lying flat on the floor, getting up with a severe pain behind the head, like something hit me. But I didn’t wait to think much about it, and went back to sleep, as soon as I found the bed groping in the dark.

The funny/hard fact is that, I actually passed out while peeing, fell flat on the floor, hit my head to the wash basin, and went back to sleep as if nothing happened !! Realized this only in the morning.

Luckily, my folks weren’t at home (they’re still in India) but only my dad in law, who in the morning said he heard a big sound (me falling to the floor of course). If they witnessed this not so funny incident, they would’ve panicked and took it over board. (its actually no big deal and even as I write this post I feel I’m over reacting.)

As a matter of fact, Micturition Syncope is a normal phenomenon happening to particularly males, caused due to a sudden dip in blood pressure, while/after peeing. The reasons are not known, but there isn’t nothing much you can do about it, except sitting while “doing the thing”, or resting a while on the bed, rather than jumping out.

This is my first ever experience, and really hope it doesn’t happen again. Has any of you you had anything similar ?

(And no pics this time. Sorry.)

Pranav Mistry – Love this guy for his genius and humility !

Friday, December 18th, 2009

When I say “I love India”, its not just because for the reason I was born here. But for the reason that I love its talents and resources. India is an package of surprises, every single time, and considering the talent pool it has, its just overwhelming how much we’re gifted with (and sometimes even disturbing to know that we’ve not been able to utilize it all)

I came to know about Pranav Mistry via the TED forums and I’m so glad I did. This young man is the epitome of inspiration to many youth, worldwide Indians and others for that matter. To me, what’s more attractive than anything else is his humility and passion. He’s the man behind the “Sixth Sense Device” and here are a few TED video which are “must sees”.

Wish him all the best.

Why do people advertise charity ?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I’m confused. Honestly, I am. Charity probably has different meaning to different people. But at the crux of it, isn’t it all about helping people ? Helping the under privileged ? At least, I’d like to believe so. And mind you, its not a favor you do, in my opinion charity ought to be something we all need to get familiar with. When you don’t get familiar with it, you begin to think that its a favor you do, and “you” become more important than what you do or did. And that’s exactly what happens when someone advertises for charity work. And I hate it.

The world as we see it is full of irregularities. Rich, poor, fat, thin, cool, uncool and I’m someone who finds joy in it. Not because I belong to one class or a sect which is comfy, but the fact that we co-exist despite these differences. We would all take turns to go through being rich, poor, cool and uncool, I haven’t seen anything permanent with anyone. Anyone. Then why do people behave as if they deserve to be getting a pat on the back for helping someone who hasn’t been gifted with what they’ve got ? Its silly. Grow up pls.
