Shashi Tharoor – Ahead of the rest, not with the right pack though

shashi-tharoor-twitter

Looks like it that Dr. Shashi Tharoor’s efforts, and the hopes of all the people who voted him especially the ‘one lakh’ who helped him win is going to get extrapolated from tomorrow as Dr. Tharoor is a “special” candidate in more than one way, and the fact that he’s not becoming a minister now.

- He is the only candidate (and now MP) who Tweets. (http://www.twitter.com/shashitharoor)

- He is the only politician to have “come down” the ladder from UN Under Secretary post to an “elected” MP status, following his passion.

- He is the only young politician from Kerala who have been (unnecessarily) ridiculed over his attire/slang/mannerisms.

A lot of hopes and prayers are with the man while he sets foot in the Parliament. But his recent exclusion from the cabinet and the numb replies from the official circles on him not becoming a minister has poured water over fire.

To me, this man carries with him quite a bunch of hopes and aspirations, mine and many likes in Kerala. He talks, walks and thinks like a man who can bring in the difference. He is capable of it, even though the sceptics might brand him an inexperienced one.

Just wondering if he would reciprocate what Trivandrum did for him. Not that it was a favour, but there are expectations, huge expectations..would he be able to sieve his way through the mess ? Or would his intellect dim amidst the rush ? Either way, its hard time for him. So here’s wishing him good luck.

Would Twitter Tastecasting work in India ?

Monday, May 18th, 2009

TasteCasting is a growing team of socially networked, and social media savvy people that establishments invite to attend a complimentary tasting. In exchange the TasteCasting team broadcasts to their collective network of friends, followers, and linked connections using Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Youtube, WordPress, Flickr, and more. The cameras, Flip video, camcorders, smartphones and more tell a complete story about the establishments menu, the taste, smell, the recipes, ingredients, the specials, the history and the overall experience.

So, will tastecasting work in India ? Of course, yes if only companies and establishments identify the power of Twitter, and come up with fresh ideas.

Check out the video here, where a pizza shop in Colorado did a tastecaste where popular Tweeters were given free pizza to taste it and wel..tweet about it.

Having a bad time, hoping for the best

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Some bad new from my side. Today my car collided with another one near Cochin North, while trying to save an old lady crossing, I had to sudden-brake and the two cars collided back to back. Minor damages to both parties. The lady is saved but the car in front of me was hit. The case is filed with Police now, and is awaiting hearing on Monday. I don’t have all my vehicle documents ready now, so I may be running into some trouble soon. Heck..I may even have to bribe someone. Anyways, hoping that I get out without much bruises. Bad things are best told short. Will keep you posted.

A small tweet for a man, but a big fail whale for the mankind

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Just got a news bit which said-

NASA astronaut Mike Massimino fired off one final tweet this morning before boarding the space shuttle Atlantis to prepare for today’s 2 p.m. launch. Massimino, who is a mission specialist on a shuttle flight, has promised to Twitter while he’s in the outer space.

That’s a great piece of news, I’d say. I mean, one that will cement Twitter as the ‘thing’ we’re all “in”.

Wondering what Massimino would Tweet from the outer space ?

Back from BarCamp Kerala and a quick vacation

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Well, I was away for a while, for one week to be honest. Last week, on the third of May, I was at the BarCamp Kerala, which was at the TechnoPark premises, and soon after went on a one week long quick vacation at my wife’s native.

Kerala BarCamp was fun. Met a bunch of enthusiastic, really interesting guys there. It was nice to see the spirits up and lots of activity among the crowd. Here are some pics from the event.

From what it looks like, Kerala is steadily growing up to more events, more opportunities and a lot of buzz and the youth here plays a crucial role in it. Geeks here have already embraced the idea of BarCamps and BlogCamps which though slowly, have become a standard. Commendable efforts by minds like Kenney Jacob and Anand.

Here’s three cheers to the geeks and BarCampers in Kerala !

And yea, on the way back from BarCamp Kerala, my car got a flat tyre and we fixed it in less than 5 minutes. That’s some serious “crowd sourcing” yea ?
Thanks to Juwal Bose, Eldhose P Mathew, Albin and Binoy Xavier – seen in the photo below.

Did the Bachhans really mean it ?

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Today morning, opened the newspaper to see this photo on the front page.

The Bachhan family striking a pose after voting. But…Mr. Bachhan why the middle finger ? lol

bacchan-voteing

Am sure they’ve had fun doing that to the media…probably one of the luxuries of being the Bachchan family.
